Collection: Frequently Asked Questions – Aquarium Plants & Décor
🪴 1. Are your aquarium plants live?
Yes! All of our plants are 100% live and aquarium-safe. Each plant is carefully grown, trimmed, and inspected before shipping to ensure it arrives healthy and ready to thrive in your tank.
🌱 2. How do I plant live aquarium plants?
Most plants can be gently placed into your substrate (gravel or sand) with their roots covered — but be sure not to bury the crown (the part where the leaves meet the roots).
Epiphytic plants like Java Fern, Anubias, and Bucephalandra should be attached to rocks or driftwood instead of planted in the substrate.
💡 3. Do I need special lighting or CO₂ for live plants?
Not necessarily! Many of our plants are beginner-friendly and thrive under low to moderate lighting with no CO₂ required.
However, adding a good light and a little liquid fertilizer can boost growth and color for all plants.
💧 4. How do live plants help my aquarium?
Live plants naturally:
-
Absorb ammonia, nitrates, and waste (improving water quality)
-
Release oxygen during the day
-
Provide hiding spots for shy fish and shrimp
-
Help prevent algae growth by competing for nutrients
They’re one of the best natural filters you can add to your tank! 🌿
🐟 5. Are your plants safe for fish, shrimp, and snails?
Absolutely. All plants are pesticide-free and snail-safe, making them perfect for Betta tanks, community aquariums, and shrimp setups.
🪵 6. How should I clean aquarium décor before adding it to my tank?
Always rinse new décor under clean water before placing it in your aquarium. Avoid soap or detergents — a quick rinse removes any dust or packaging residue.
For driftwood or rocks, you can soak them in warm water for a few hours to help them sink and release any tannins naturally.
🌸 7. What’s the best décor for my aquarium?
It depends on your setup! For natural aquascapes, we recommend driftwood, smooth stones, and live plants. For Betta tanks, caves and leaf rests make perfect hiding and lounging spots. Choose décor that’s smooth and fish-safe to prevent injury.
📦 8. How are live plants shipped?
We carefully wrap each plant in moist paper and pack it in a breathable, insulated pouch. Orders are shipped early in the week (usually Monday–Wednesday) to avoid weekend delays.
You’re also covered by our Live Arrival Guarantee — if your plants arrive damaged, just send a photo within 24 hours and we’ll make it right!
🌿 9. How often should I fertilize my plants?
Most aquariums benefit from a liquid fertilizer once or twice a week. Root-feeding plants like Amazon Swords or Cryptocorynes appreciate root tabs placed near their base every couple of months.
🧭 10. I’m new to aquarium plants — which ones should I start with?
We recommend easy, hardy plants such as:
-
Java Fern
-
Anubias Nana
-
Amazon Sword
-
Water Wisteria
-
Hornwort
-
Dwarf Sagittaria
These grow well in most aquariums with basic lighting and care.
11. How do you ship live plants and aquatic items?
All live plants are carefully wrapped in moist paper or cotton, sealed in breathable or insulated packaging, and placed in a sturdy box for protection. During warmer or colder months, we include heat packs or cool packs when needed.
We ship Monday through Wednesday to avoid weekend delays and ensure your order arrives quickly and safely.
💧 12. How long does shipping take?
Most orders arrive within 2–5 business days (once shipped), depending on your location and shipping method.
Once your order ships, you’ll receive a tracking number so you can follow it every step of the way!
🌡️ 13. Do you ship year-round, even in extreme weather?
Yes, but we take extra precautions! We monitor temperatures across shipping routes and may delay shipments if there’s extreme heat or cold to protect your live items.
We’ll always contact you if a delay is needed to ensure your plants arrive safely.
🪴 14. What is your Live Arrival Guarantee?
We stand behind every live plant we ship!
If your plants arrive damaged or melted, please send us a clear photo within 2 hours of delivery, and we’ll replace or refund the affected items if necessary.
Our goal is for you to be 100% happy with every plant or live item you receive. 🌿
📦 15. How are shipping costs calculated?
Shipping rates are based on package weight, size, and destination. We keep them as affordable as possible while ensuring safe packaging.
Orders over a certain amount may qualify for free shipping — check our homepage or banner for current offers!
🧊 16. What if my plants are delayed in transit?
Most live plants can safely handle short delays thanks to our moisture-retaining packaging. However, during busy seasons we HIGHLY RECOMMEND Selecting USPS Priority or Fedex 2 Day as your shipping option. During the holiday season, Orders are prone to delays. DOA WILL NOT be honored if ground shipping is selected during these times (November - January).
🪵 17. Do you offer local pickup?
If you’re nearby, yes! You can select local pickup at checkout (when available) and we’ll contact you to schedule a convenient time.
🐠 18. Can I order live items with non-live products?
Absolutely! We’ll pack everything together safely, separating live items with moisture barriers to protect them during transit.
📬 19. What should I do when my live plants arrive?
-
Unpack them right away.
-
Rinse gently in dechlorinated or aquarium water.
-
Trim any damaged leaves if necessary.
-
Plant or float them in your tank and watch them perk up within a day or two!
Don’t worry if some leaves look a little tired after shipping — this is normal. New growth will appear quickly once the plants settle in. 🌱
