Flame moss (Taxiphyllum "Flame") is a popular decorative aquarium plant known for its unique flame-like growth pattern. It‘s easy to care for, adapts to various water conditions, and can enhance the health of a freshwater aquarium.
Appearance: Flame moss grows in tall, narrow, curvy, vertical shoots that resemble flames, reaching heights of 5–15 cm. It has a frond structure that doesn‘t branch out much.
Benefits:
Flame moss oxygenates the water and acts as a natural filtration system. It also provides a safe place for shrimp to graze and hide.
Care:
Flame moss prefers moderate lighting, light nutrients, and a cleaning crew to keep the fronds clean. It can be attached to small stones, tree roots, moss ledges, or stainless steel mesh.
Propagation:
Flame moss can be propagated by breaking the parent plant into smaller pieces and attaching them to a new location. Trimming the moss near the base and tying it down can also encourage thicker growth.
